Privacy Policy
Effective October 28, 2026 · Family Command Center, a private household project · Contact: lancefamilycalendar1@gmail.com
Family Command Center is a private, non-commercial family calendar dashboard. It runs on a single device in our home (a wall-mounted touchscreen) and is used only by members of our household. It is not offered to the public, has no user accounts of its own, and contains no advertising or analytics.
What Google user data the app accesses
With the household Google account's permission, the app requests only these Google Calendar permissions:
- See the list of calendars the household account is subscribed to (
calendar.calendarlist.readonly), to know which family calendars to display. - See events on those calendars (
calendar.events.readonly), to show them on the family screen. - See free/busy time (
calendar.freebusy), so calendars shared as "free/busy only" appear as "Busy" blocks. - Manage only the calendars the app itself created (
calendar.app.created), so family members can add or change events on those family calendars. The app cannot change any other calendar.
The app does not request access to Gmail, Google Drive, contacts or any other Google service.
How the data is used
- Calendar data is used only to display the family calendar on our home screen and, when a family member chooses, to create or edit events on the app's own family calendars.
- For calendars shared as "free/busy only", the app asks Google only for busy times; event details are never requested.
- Events marked "Private" in Google Calendar are reduced to "Busy" as soon as they are received: their titles, places and notes are discarded immediately and are never shown, stored or shared.
- Optional feature (only if the household turns it on): events a family member explicitly marks for sharing are copied — title, date, time and, optionally, location, never notes — to a separate calendar that the family's grandparents can view.
Where the data is stored
- All data stays on our own device at home. A local copy of the displayed events is kept so the screen still works during an internet outage; it is replaced at every refresh.
- The Google authorization (a refresh token) is stored only on that device, in a protected folder that is excluded from backups and from source control.
- Local backups on the same device contain the app's settings (including which calendars are shown) but never calendar events or the Google authorization.
- Google user data is never sent anywhere except back to Google's own Calendar API. The app's only other outside connection is an optional weather forecast, which receives the household's configured location and no Google data.
Sharing
We do not sell, rent, share or transfer Google user data to anyone, and we do not use it for advertising, profiling, or developing or training any machine-learning or AI model. Data is visible only on our household screen (and, if the optional feature above is turned on, explicitly shared events appear on the grandparents' read-only calendar).
Limited Use
Family Command Center's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Keeping and deleting data
- Local copies of calendar events are overwritten at each refresh and deleted when a calendar is removed from the screen.
- The account owner can revoke the app's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. The app also has a disconnect command that revokes access and deletes the stored authorization from the device.
- To ask about or request deletion of any data, contact lancefamilycalendar1@gmail.com.
Children
The app shows family members' calendars on a screen in our home. It has no accounts for children, does not collect information from children, and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone outside our household.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
